Courtney C. Junkins, PsyD

Courtney Craig Junkins, PsyD, is a licensed psychologist who specializes in working with children, adolescents, young adults and their families. Dr. Junkins predominantly uses a cognitive-behavioral approach to therapy and provides evidence-based intervention services. She has specialty training in pediatric psychology and has particular expertise in working with children who have chronic medical conditions. Dr. Junkins also has specialized training in hypnotherapy and biofeedback for pain management.

Dr. Junkins earned a B.A. in Psychology at Mercer University and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology (APA-accredited) at Nova Southeastern University. She completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah specializing in pediatric psychology and pediatric neuropsychology. Dr. Junkins completed her APA-accredited post-doctoral fellowship at Children’s Health – Children’s Medical Center Dallas in child clinical and pediatric health psychology.

 

In addition to working part-time in private practice, Dr. Junkins is a Lead Scientist and the Associate Director for Intervention Sciences within the Palliative Care and Resilience Research Program (PCAR) at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Within this role she trains and supervises a national pool of coaches who deliver the promoting resilience in stress management (PRISM) coaching program. She also delivers the PRISM program to both adolescents and young adults diagnosed with a chronic medical condition and to healthcare workers in a group setting.

Dr. Junkins’ areas of specialty include:

  • Coping/adjusting to acute or chronic medical conditions

  • Adherence to medical regimens

  • Chronic pain management (i.e., migraines, amplified musculoskeletal pain, etc.)

  • Functional disorders (i.e., pseudoseizures, conversion disorder, POTS, etc.)

  • Gastrointestinal conditions (i.e. constipation, chronic abdominal pain, IBS/IBD)

  • Anxiety, depression, and stress management

  • Grief, loss, and bereavement

  • Parent management training for behavior management

  • Evaluations for learning disorders, ADHD, and IQ/gifted placement

  • Evaluation and Testing – Advanced and Gifted Learners, School Entrance

  • Neuropsychological evaluations
